S4RARA
Thanks for taking the time to find out about S4rara. My name is Tamara. I have a few nicknames, my favourite being Rara! I was born raised and still reside in London. Being the eldest sibling of four, from a working class single parent family, coloured my life lens with a deep, old school shade of mend & make do, held fast with a brass frame of team work and community.
I have been aware of negitive global environmental and social issues since I was a school girl, (I am now a grandmother). It always seemed to me, if we all became a tad more community minded and a little less wasteful we could all contribute to a better world.
In 2011 I decided to sell some old designer baby clothes on eBay and set up an account. A work colleague at the time, offered me a box of junk to sell via my newly found platform. I was reluctant but after some thought I decided, it was heading for the bin & if it didn’t sell the bin is where it could go, no loss no gain.
Many items in this box were not functioning as intended. I listed them as such, including all faults in the description and taking photographs from every conceivable angle as not to deceive any potential buyer. Everything in my box of junk went for between 99p and £4.90. I remember the items that went for £4.90. It was a Christmas light bundle circa 1970’s/1980’s.
One set worked when plugged in the other two sets in the bundle did not. The bundle also included two small bags of tiny fairy lightbulbs of varying shapes and colours. When this bundle went for the price it did, the first thing I did was to check my description. On checking and finding a transparent honest statement I became excited at the possibility I had stumbled upon. I was confused as to why, but the sale meant people would pay for things I had no use for, that were destined for the bin, surly this new discovery could possitively impact the environment & my purse.
I mean if it was heading for landfill but instead I took a picture, listed it and only got 99p for it, I’d be richer than if it had been thrown in the rubbish and the environment would benefit to boot!
A new issue arose when my eldest child became old enough to make purchases independently. New, unopened gadgets and clothes, that had been discarded in the corner of the teens bedroom, (because a fad had expired, or Lazyitis set in, preventing its return in the allotted time), started ending up in the bin. So in addition to my preloved fodder, I started listing brand-new l, pre-owned things, that were headed for landfill.
Currently I sell as a private seller exclusively on eBay. Both auction and buy now options are utilised at present.
An eBay shop will follow in the near future. Other selling platforms may also be utilised soon.
